Community Building and Social Media Project
Attention American Sign Language Students:
Deaf culture is fading!
We must preserve it!
Deaf culture is fading!
We must preserve it!
American Sign Language, being a visual language and not written down, is passed down generations through visual stories, jokes, poems, and art. With the invent and spread of cochlear implants the availability of children to pass on these stories to is diminishing, but there is another way!
The internet provides another means to pass on this culture, and it is up to us, supporters of the language and culture, to document all we can for future generations.
We must work as a team, collect all that we can, and provide the public with the precious aspects of Deaf culture previously unnoticed and discarded.

Step 1: Collaberate
Using your student email address join our Google+ Community Culture Keepers Collaboration
We will use this site to discuss materials we find, questions we have, and the progress of our project.

Step 2: Collect
Log on to Padlet using your school email and join our three class Padlets shown and linked below.
We will use Padlet to collect all artifacts we find representing Deaf culture.
Whenever you add a new material make sure to include:
1. A link to the source
2. The artist or author
3. A description of the material and its relation to Deaf culture
Each student must find and post 3 original materials of each type; still art, story/joke, and poem.
Padlet is easy to use, if you are having trouble view this tutorial.
If the material you find is still art, like a painting, post it here:

Another great place to collaborate with experts and collect valuable materials for our project is Flickr.
You can create an account using your school email address and join Flickr groups to collaborate with professional deaf photographers and find some unique materials for our Padlets.

Step 3: Create
Log onto our class Wiki linked below using your school email.
Now that we have collected materials to preserve the visual language and culture of the Deaf, we will create a class Wiki to showcase them to the public. We will collaborate as a class, using Google+, to choose which materials from our Padlets to post on our Wiki, the descriptions to give each material, and how to format our Wiki. Have fun!
